What I'm thankful for: March 31
Today I'm thankful for...
Will!
Today is Will's birthday! From the moment we met and someone else said that I was the female version of him, I knew we were destined for something good. Of course, I now also know that I'm way cooler than him, but he has his moments! Ha! I'm very thankful for him and how he inspires me to do things I didn't think I could do (like a half marathon!). He's also caring, considerate, funny, and just all around wonderful (I'm gonna stop the sap train). Even though he's younger than me, which doesn't allow me to make jokes about how old he's getting, I still love him and hope he has a wonderful birthday!

Today I'm thankful for...
Payday!
We still operate on the once a month pay system at work, which gets a little rough. I know that I make the same amount of money every month, and it shouldn't matter whether I get paid weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly, but there's just something about once a month paychecks that seem more difficult. I've been doing better with budgeting and tracking money, so I'm not flat broke today, but payday is a welcome site!

Today I'm thankful for...
The Internet!
Our Internet went down at work today for about 3 hours. According to the text alert we got, there was a massive server malfunction. The IT Director equated it to turning on your computer and not having an operating system. While I consider myself a fairly resourceful person who keeps a list of non-Internet things to do, I did have a hard time working during that time period. I lost Internet during class tonight as well. I must need to tell the Internet how much I love and appreciate it because it's just not had a good day today. Internet, you've come a long way from your humble origins via Al Gore (okay, I know, but I couldn't help it) to your prevalence today, and I'm very thankful for you. Now, please don't crash again at work until May when I have a month off school and won't panic because I can't do homework during lunch...

Today I'm thankful for...
My parents' marriage!
Today is my Mom and Dad's 29th wedding anniversary! Allow me to get sappy for a moment here and say how much I love them and look to them as a model of how marriage should be. They got married when they were really young, and they are still very happily married. They don't sugarcoat marriage or make it sound like it's always sunshine and butterflies, and I appreciate that. I'm really proud of them for having a healthy marriage for so many years! Guess I'd better start planning a party for their 30th anniversary! =)

Today I'm thankful for...
Tweezers!
Tweezers are such versatile little tools. They can help make your eyebrows look less like they belong to a Muppet, they can remove splinters, they can even pick pieces of shredded paper out of paper shredders that jam too much (not that I've ever had to do that at work ha ha). They're cheap enough that you can buy a couple of them and stash them in various places so you'll always have them around when you need them. Add a piece of gum and a mirror and you can do something MacGyver-ish!

Today I'm thankful for...
Haircuts!
Call me weird, but I love getting a haircut. There's something about getting your hair trimmed and reshaped that makes me happy. It also makes me want to do other girly things, like wear makeup and paint my fingernails. I guess there's something about a haircut that makes you feel like you're having a bit of a makeover. Of course, I still don't really know how to apply much makeup, and my fingernails usually look like a small child painted them, but it's a nice thought nonetheless.

Today I'm thankful for...
Clean water!
Last Thursday was World Water Day, a fact I found out by checking into a restaurant on Foursquare. I don't stop to think about it often, but I am really blessed to have constant access to clean water, for drinking, bathing, cleaning, cooking, etc. I turn on the tap without giving it a second thought. I probably waste more water in a day than some people in other parts of the world see in a week or a month. I'm incredibly grateful for clean water and want to do something to help others have that same privilege.

Comedy!
For those of you who are nitpicky, this is completely different from a sense of humor, which I have posted about in the past. Will and I had tickets to see Gabriel Iglesias last night. I got him the tickets for Christmas, so I didn't realize until last week how busy this week was going to be with the conference. The show was at the Ryman Auditorium, and since I had only been to the Ryman once (for a Kelly Clarkson concert!), I didn't realize that the seats on the lower level are a tad bit, um, uncomfortable to say the least. Anyway, the show was great! It featured 5 (or 6?) opening comedians, most of whom were very funny, and then Gabriel did a nearly 2 hour long set! Unfortunately, we were so tired by the end of it, we didn't even try to hang around to meet him, but it was hilarious! There's nothing like an entire evening devoted to laughing! ;)

Today I'm thankful for...
Baptism!
I was baptized one year ago today! It was a windy Wednesday night, and I was the first of around 23 people that were scheduled to be baptized that night. I was almost late to service because Will and I went to Subway beforehand and didn't eat quickly enough, so I missed the "lesson" about how to go under. Luckily, Pastor Dave gave me a recap before I went under. I remember thinking that the church was packed. I also remember hoping that I didn't slip and fall. But most of all, I remember feeling clean when I came up...like clean from the inside, if that makes sense. I declared my faith and proclaimed that I was a believer in Christ in front of the church and God, and even when I mess up (daily, no, hourly), I am still one of God's children, and no one can take that away from me!
Public service announcement: If you're looking for a church to attend on Easter weekend, I would LOVE to invite you to mine. I go to Joy Church, and we're having services on Saturday, April 7 at 5 PM and 7 PM and Sunday, April 8 at 9 AM and 11 AM. It doesn't matter what you look like, what you wear, or even if it's been years since you've been in a church. If you're interested in coming to a service (I'll go with you, no matter which one you decide to attend!), just leave a comment with your email address or phone number, and I'll contact you; I have it set where they have to be approved before they're published, so if you don't want anyone to see your email address or phone number, don't worry!

I'm at the TLA library conference today through Friday. It's a break in my daily routine, and I get to learn a lot. Plus, librarians are generally a fun group of people to be around. Today I'm thankful for...
Spring!
Even though we've had a really mild winter and the past few days have been very warm for this time of year, I'm still thankful for Spring! Spring means we are moving into longer days, warmer weather, and closer to summertime! Sure we might have more bugs and allergies this time of year, and it's guaranteed that you've already seen people breaking out clothes that they never need to put on their bodies again, but isn't the weather great? ;)

Today I'm thankful for...
Awkward moments!
I know that's a weird thing to be thankful for, but yesterday was Awkward Moments Day (seriously, who comes up with this stuff??), so it made me think about all of the awkward moments I've had. I'm a little awkwardat times most of the time, which doesn't seem like a good thing but it kinda is. When you have a lot of awkward moments, it forces you to learn how to respond to awkwardness. Sometimes, you make the situation worse, but sometimes you can turn it around. It also gives you a sense of humor. Really, how uptight can you be when you've sprayed spit across the table at a lunch with two co-workers (sorry about that)? The next time you have an awkward moment, see how you can turn it into something wonderful...or even more awkward.

Today I'm thankful for...
Guidance!
When you're young, you know everything. No one can tell you anything that you don't know because you already know it all. Then one day, as you age a little, you realize that maybe there's one or two things you don't know...or maybe five, six, seven, or a hundred. Luckily, there are people around you who can give you guidance in these areas of your life where you may not know everything. Guidance doesn't have to be from someone who's vastly older than you; it just needs to come from someone who has been there before and made mistakes that you probably would make also. Learn from these people. Seek guidance in all areas of your life, and you will save yourself the trouble of "reinventing the wheel" so to speak. And if you receive enough guidance, you can at least make other people think that you know close to everything!

What I'm thankful for: March 16
Today I'm thankful for...
Lips!
Today is "lips appreciation day," according to Chase's Calendar of Events. I've never really thought of my lips beyond being annoyed when my lips are chapped (and having a moment of silence for my favorite root beer lip gloss from Bath and Body Works that was forever lost to a booth at the Cheesecake Factory). Lips are a nice body part, though. Can you imagine what faces would look like without them? Blech. Also, think of all of the work they have to do during the day. My poor lips suffer through my incessant talking. They need a medal for that! Treat your lips extra nice for the duration of today. They deserve it!

Today I'm thankful for...
Sunshine!
I know I've talked about the weather already this week, but it's really, really nice for this time of year (with the exception of all of the thunderstorms, tornadoes, and hail. Nothing major, right?). Most of the day was gorgeous, and it made me realize just what an effect sunshine has on my mood and attitude. I do not care for cold weather at all, so this warmth and sunshine make me feel so much happier. Today I had the chance to go for a short walk in the sunshine, and I felt like I was in a much better mood for the rest of the afternoon. Of course, once I got home, went to class, and worked on homework I had procrastinated on, I was a bit grumpy. Maybe there will be more sunshine tomorrow to turn my frown upside down! ;)
Ooh, today is the Ides of March. Hope everyone had a better day than Julius Caesar did!

Today I'm thankful for...
Pi(e)!
Today is Pi Day. If you don't know what that means, then look it up because I was an English major and will butcher the explanation of Pi (something about the radius of a circle? Pies are circular...it all fits together...). I'm also thankful for pie because it's delicious. This is a 2-in-1 blog posting, kind of like a pie with 2 different flavors sharing one crust.
And just for fun...

Springing forward!
I realize I'm a couple of days off here, but I actually like to Spring Forward! Yes, losing an hour of sleep stinks, and yes, it being dark when I get up in the morning stinks, but having daylight until close to 7 PM is marvelous. Plus, it makes glorious summertime seem so much closer!

Google told me that today is International Women's Day, a day that I was unaware of before this. While I'm not really what you would call a "feminist" or anything like that, I do like the basic idea behind. However, I feel that I should've been celebrated more today, perhaps with gifts. What I'm thankful for: March 7
Today I'm thankful for...
At home hair color!
I have a confession: at the ripe old age of 28, I have begun to see silver strands in my hair. The first couple I saw were immediately plucked out, but evidently the old wives tale was true because those couple have multiplied and turned into more than I can even count. I've been coloring my hair since I was probably around 12. My grandma used to work in beauty shops and owned a shop for a while, so she did it for me a lot. Once she retired, I still wanted to change my hair color, so I started using at home hair color. I usually make a mess and miss spots, despite sectioning my hair, going through it multiple times, etc, but it seems to change the majority of my hair and hide my new pesky "friends." I think I'll eventually go back to having it professionally done, but for now, the box is my buddy!

Today I'm thankful for...
Random days off from work!
It's Spring Break at work, which means that the students and (most of) the faculty are gone. However, the staff has to stay and run things since for some reason everything can't just shut down for a week. ;) For the past couple of years our university president has given us a day off during Spring Break so we at least get a little bit of a break. I decided to be flexible and take any day since a day off is a day off in my book. I had today off, and it was wonderful! I went for a walk/jog (lots more walking than jogging ha ha) with Will this morning, ran errands with my brother, and was more awake than usual in class tonight (but not less confused...that will never happen in this class). Random days off from work are the best!

eBooks!
Yesterday marked the beginning of Read an eBook Week (there's a week or day for everything it seems). eBooks are wonderful because they're portable and you can fit tons of them on a device. If you have the right kind of device, then they don't cause any eye strain and can be lighter than actual books. I know as a librarian that I probably shouldn't love eBooks as much as I do, but I don't care. I'm a rebel like that.

Today I'm thankful for...
Prayers!
This was originally going to be Friday's topic since it was the World Day of Prayer, but the bad weather made me change my topic around a little. Fittingly, the bad weather probably also inspired a lot of prayers.
Prayer is one of the ways to communicate with God. It's also a way to think about other people and their needs when you're not really sure what else you can do for them. There is power in praying the words of Scripture, even if you don't hear an answer immediately. If you're not sure how to pray, start with what is probably the best known Christian prayer: The Lord's Prayer. Also, look at some other Bible verses that talk about prayer and how to pray. Also, I want to invite anyone who's interested to come to church with me. I go to Joy Church, which isn't religious and will show you how to have a relationship with God, including learning how to effectively pray. Our pastor prays for everyone in the congregation, which is inspiring me to pray for more people, including anyone who's reading this blog. If you have any prayer requests, let me know. Hope everyone has a great week!

If you're not sure how to pray, start with what is probably the best known Christian prayer: The Lord's Prayer. Also, look at some other Bible verses that talk about prayer and how to pray. Also, I want to invite anyone who's interested to come to church with me. I go to Joy Church, which isn't religious and will show you how to have a relationship with God, including learning how to effectively pray. Our pastor prays for everyone in the congregation, which is inspiring me to pray for more people, including anyone who's reading this blog. If you have any prayer requests, let me know. What I'm thankful for: March 3
Today I'm thankful for...
The Greenway!
For those of you who aren't familiar with the Greenway, it's a paved walking/running/biking path that runs alongside parts of the Cumberland River. It has a lot of different trailheads, and I'm not sure of the exact mileage,but you can go from Donelsin to Nashville by using the Greenway system. It's a nice departure from doing laps at a park, especially when you've got a good walking/jogging buddy like I had today and the weather is as nice as it was today. Also, I saw a guy that looked like one of the members of Kings of Leon. I'm going to pretend it was him just so I go out and exercise more often!

Shelter!
This wasn't my original posting topic (I'm going to move it to Sunday so stay tuned), but after today's storms, I'm extremely thankful for shelter. I hope everyone is okay. It got a little scary out there!

What I'm thankful for: March 1
Today I'm thankful for...
Compliments!
Today is World Compliment Day (no, really, it's actually a thing...), so it made me think about how grateful I am for compliments. Some people have a knack for giving me a compliment on something when I've been feeling insecure about it, and it's always very much appreciated. I also strive to compliment people on something daily, whether it's appearance based or something they've done. The catch is making sure it's sincere. People can spot an insincere compliment immediately, and then they wonder if you're trying to manipulate them. But none of you wonderful, good looking, extremely smart and talented readers would ever do that, would you? ;)
On a side note (this has been the week for side notes, hasn't it?), I have been looking at Chase's Calendar of Events to make sure I'm not missing any holidays/big events, so when I post about a random day, such as World Compliment Day or Belly Laughter Day, that is my source. As a librarian, I felt like I needed to cite my source.
